Blessings of Adversity

When we think that times are tough, perhaps you might like to reflect on one of my favourites tales...

There was once an old farmer and his son whose horse had run away. The neighbours said it was bad luck, but then the horse came back with three wild horses following. This seemed like good luck - until the son, trying to ride one of the wild horses, fell off and broke his leg. Bad luck, it turned out - except that soon after the accident, the military generals swept through the valley, taking all able-bodied young men off to a terrible war. The son, of course, was spared....

Good luck - bad luck.... when a situation arises, we never truly know. If we can stay present to each moment for what it is, without judgement of if a situation is good or bad, without labeling it, there within lies the secret to living in peace...om shanti
